It is important for sailboats especially because you might be approaching under sail or under motor in a variety of wind conditions, wind angles, and slips. Are you arriving upwind? downwind? cross-wind? Make sure you prevent accidents by taking every possible precaution. People watch you dock and undock a boat, especially your neighbors in adjacent slips. Get it right! There is no shortage of witnesses to good skill or bad.
