About us

Why Sailing? Why now?

In 2019, a virus called COVID-19 caused many of us to hide indoors and lock ourselves away from family and friends. I was driving alone in my car when I heard this guy talking about how he was going to use this indoor time productively. He said,”If you don’t come out of this pandemic with some new skill or training, then you wasted this time. Find a project, something and develop yourself!”

Well that hit me between the eyes! Nobody but me and my cat at home, so I decided to develop my sailing skills. While theoretically it is still possible to catch COVID while sailing, I followed the recommended guidelines: wear a mask, take some Vitamin-D. Mother nature gave the boats UV-sterilization to clean surfaces outside and wind to dilute the viral concentration. “Maybe sailing would be a good choice for MY Covid Project”, I thought. Many of the things I needed to know came from a mix of videos, books, courses, and sailing lessons from some of the best teachers of sailing SoCal has to offer. I was able to learn Navigation, Heavy Weather Sailing, Docking, as well as specialized instruction from the ASA that qualified me to become a 200 level Instructor. Whenever we went on lockdown, I just hit the books and studied until things opened up again. Despite the shutdowns, and rule changes, it was actually easy to maintain progress. With consistent effort, I managed to make even more progress than I could have imagined.

Being a graduate of Columbia University’s Teachers College, teaching for over 22 years, I had learned a thing or two about education and teaching. I began teaching sailing during the worst of the pandemic, one mask-wearing day at a time. I now have some experience and lessons to share with you. Now sailing CAN BE an expensive hobby, but it doesn’t have to be. There are ways to minimize costs and spare yourself the thousands it will cost to buy and maintain a boat. Oh the maintenance…anyway, I hope you will discover sailing for yourself. Racing, Cruising, Day-Sailing,  whatever “floats your boat”.

Extraordinary Experiences

Sailing connects you with the wind, the sea, and nature. There is a powerful connection to what is true. The wind may change, but it doesn’t lie.

Sailing can help you overcome fear, gain confidence, help you face adversity, and connect you with the time-honored traditions of sailing.

Our Core Values

Sailing can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. As you dive deeper, you’ll realize that there is always another level.
